The lazy consensus in financial and geopolitical circles is simple: combine battle-tested Ukrainian engineering with the industrial scale of European firms like Innokas or Summa Defence, and you get an unstoppable alliance that arms the continent and saves Ukraine.
It sounds tidy. It looks great in press releases signed at trade exhibitions in Denmark. It is also fundamentally backward.
Moving the production of frontline tactical systems like Airlogix reconnaissance units or FPV platforms into high-cost, hyper-regulated European facilities does not solve the defense crisis. It dilutes the exact operational agility that made Ukrainian hardware world-class in the first place.

A drone built in a high-cost European jurisdiction will carry a price tag multiple times higher than one produced closer to the point of need. Instead of maximizing the volume of airframes reaching the front lines per dollar spent, capital is redirected into European overhead, compliance audits, and administrative bloat.
If European nations genuinely want to support defense capabilities, they should be financing raw material acquisition, microchip supply chains, and scaling capacity directly inside secure decentralized hubs within Ukraine, rather than pulling the intellectual property outward into bureaucratic domestic plants.
The Counter-Intuitive Truth
The most effective way to scale drone production is not to Europeanize it. It is to Ukrainianize European capital.
