We are standing at a historic crossroads. For a century, our hubris led us to believe we could outsmart nature, that we could cage the wild and banish element zero from the landscape. We treated fire as an intruder rather than an architect.

Reversing that mistake requires more than policy shifts in Washington. It requires a cultural reckoning. It demands that we accept smoke in our valleys as a sign of healing, that we tolerate the temporary discomfort of managed burns to secure the permanent survival of our great green cathedrals.
